Coffee In Calgary: Where To Go

Whether you’re here on business or here vacationing with the kids, there’s something everyone wants to start the day with!

You can, of course, get coffee at the hotel – both from the comfort of your own room or from the on-site restaurant – but the very act of going for a cup of coffee is a great way to explore a town.  You can meet new people, enjoy a new environment, relax.  We put together a list of some of our favorite coffee shops in Calgary so you know where to visit!

Phil & Sebastian

This coffeehouse started when two college friends decided espresso can be a transcendent experience, but often isn’t.  Between making bad espresso themselves at home and having mediocre espresso out, they delved into the process of learning how to do it properly.  After a difficult start where they faced a lot of failure and rejection, they impressed a food critic with, as he said, “coffee nirvana”.  Now, they’ve mastered that process, and pride themselves on offering some of the best espresso and coffee to the cafe’s guests.  Get a cappuccino and settle in so you can really enjoy the nuanced flavors they coax out of their beans, then pick up a bag of coffee to make in the hotel.

Philosafy

This is the kind of cafe you should go to when you want to ponder deep thoughts over a latte.  The ambiance is reminiscent of philosophers’ salons, where people exchanged ideas over coffee or cocktails.  Order their custom Socrates Espresso, which has rich flavors and hints of chocolate and nuts.  Pair it with their chocolate banana croissant, a pastry that you never knew you needed to eat.

Societe

Societe brings unique coffee blends to Calgary, and switches them out on a regular basis, so that you always have the chance to try something new.  Try a latte flight, which allows you to sample a variety of lattes, from tumeric to beetroot.  If you’re hungry, you may also want to indulge in one of their pastries or an ice cream macaron sandwich!

Hexagon

If you’re looking for a hangout place, you need to go to Hexagon.  They have great coffee – get a frozen drink, they’re delicious and creative – but the real claim to fame is their board game collection.  With 600 games available, you can play while you drink.  If you don’t know what games look fun, the baristas will certainly have a recommendation, and may even give you some tips!

Coffee is a lifestyle here in Calgary, so explore our local coffeehouses to find the one that best suits your taste!
