Coming Up: Oktoberfest
Celebrate Germany’s most beloved festival right here in Calgary!
Oktoberfest is popular all around the world, and Calgary puts its own spin on the festivities. The event began in Bavaria, Germany as part of nobility wedding celebrations, and after being repeated for the noble couple’s first anniversary, became a yearly event. As time passed, the tradition spread, primarily because everyone wants the opportunity to celebrate and have fun! Calgary’s Oktoberfest is hosted at the Polo Club Ranch from September 27th through the 29th and the hosts go all out. Put on your lederhosen or dirndls and get ready to indulge in too much beer, food, and fun.
Across the festival, you’ll find a wide variety of German beers, so that you can enjoy your choice of ales, lagers, and stouts. In between brews, dine on German cuisine, from pretzels to schnitzel and bratwurst. Edelweiss Imports will be hosting a German market inside the ranch house where you can buy authentic German souvenirs like beer steins, mustard, and carved wooden cuckoo clocks.
If your competitive spirit wants a challenge, join the stein holding contest, where you have to hold a stein full of beer in the air longer than anyone else – it’s harder than it looks! You can also enjoy the musical skills of the live band or the spin talent of the DJ.
