Joining NaNoWriMo In Calgary

If you’re participating in National Novel Writing Month while visiting Calgary this month, you’ll love writing in some of these great places across the city!

Hotel Business Center

The most convenient place is the business center, right here in the hotel.  Equipped with computers, printers, and a photocopier, it has everything you need to write a rough draft.  Plus, you can take a break and get a drink from the restaurant while you stretch and work out the kinks.

Gravity

If you want to go the classic cafe route, Gravity is an excellent choice.  Sit down with a hot vanilla latte while you pound out a few words, or in the evenings, try an adult beverage – they offer wine, beer, scotch, or cocktails, like the Moscow Mule.  Regardless, the wood-heavy industrial decor is warm enough for you to feel cozy as you seek inspiration by people-watching instead of writing.

Regal Cat Cafe

There’s one thing that never fails to get the creative juices flowing, and that’s a cat laying on the keyboard so you can’t type when inspiration hits.  At the Regal Cat Cafe, up to 12 cats are in residence at any time, ready to prevent you from getting anything done.  Enjoy a coffee or tea, a cat-shaped macaron, which is delicious as well as adorable, and play with cats.  If you’re having a bit of writer’s block, just include one of the cats in your story!  And if you fall in love, all of the cats are up for adoption!

If you’re trying to stay healthy this month, settle in at Jugo Juice for your work session.  Their smoothies are all made with fresh fruit, and the variety of flavors means you’ll find something for every mood.  Newcomers should try the Dragon Force, with strawberries, dragonfruit, and ginger, or the Outer Spice, which combines chocolate, cinnamon, coffee, and banana, for a delicious treat.

Calgary has a number of public libraries, but Memorial Park is the most stunning, so if you need visual inspiration, this is the place to go.  Libraries are so often overlooked, but they’re quiet, you can often rent a room if you need complete privacy, you have a whole building of potential research resources.  Also, numerous NaNoWriMo events are held there, such as write-ins!

Be inspired all across Calgary as you try writing the next best-selling novel!
